Summary I-War is an action packed tactical space warfare simulation with a branching storyline. You are in control of the 150 m long cruiser dreadnaught. The bridge consists of 4 workstations: gunner, navigator, helm (engineer), commander. This sounds like a submarine simulation but in fact its possible to play the game completly as navigator who jumps occasionaly into the other stations. The feeling of being in command is very intense because every aspect of the spaceship is explained in the manual in full detail. Its pure hard sci-fi. Flying around gives you an absolutely correct feeling of the physics that apply to such a large ship. And its a good feeling. The (unaccelerated) graphics are beautyfull. True light sourcing, colored lights, metalic surfaces and all that stuff are put together in a decent way to enhance the expierence of real space flight. The missions are well designed and bear some hidden surprises. The briefings are informative but you have to check out whats realy going on. For example: you are called to a blockade position where you deliver an admiral to the main battleship of the blockade fleet. Just a routine job. Then you have to patrol the lagrange point (jump point) for uninvited guests. Suddenly a tug ship exists the hyperspace and breaks the blockade. Some ships of the fleet follow the intruder. Your navigator recieved a signal from the ship to the jump point (faster-than-light-signal) which reveals the positions of the main battleships of the fleet. In the next second some space debris comes through the jump point and damages these ships. One piece of debris misses and moves directly to the planet. The debris conceals a small freighter trying a blockade run supported by a small fleet of attack ships. The computer AI is good. The other ships aren´t mindless boogeys, they try to survive the conflict with the most possible damage delivery like you do. The sound is good and the handling easy. There is no musical score, but ingame cutscenes of high quality and enhance the already tight atmosphere. Join the NAVY. Strength Weakness Would you like to Comment? Summary When i first layed my eyes on the game i thouhgt i would be a big hit, and i was so right!I can't still figure out why it haven't sold so well...The Intro movie is mor than 14 minutes long (!) nad contain verry good 3d graphics (just like the game itselfe). But the most important thing is thats its interessting and have a good gamevalue, and this game really has it all. If u like games like the X Wing, Tie fighter games are really gona like this game.....but one important thing is that I-WAR has more strategi and less SUPER action than the other games. It is that i like whit this game!It fells great to have controll over a 150m corvette class ship, gliding around in space and kick the ass of other smaller ships. Another grate thing is that I-WAR are gona get 3Dfx support, and get more enhasements than the original game, but we must wait untill the Second quarter of 1998. ---- This is a game for all those that likes Spaceactionstrategies! --- Strength Weakness Would you like to Comment? Summary I-War is one of the best action sim ever. better than the last X-wing series. The mission is engrossing. You will just immerse yourself in this game. The graphics are beautiful. With 3dfx the graphics are awesome. The detail on the stars and planets. It's got a great gameplay but sometimes it is just too hard especially the "precision" mission in which you have to catch this debris with some sort of big tank above your craft. It's crazy. But it's fun. The voice acting is below average, but the other sounds are great. Strength Weakness Would you like to Comment?
