Summary

Ok...for the past 5 months now I've been debating as to wether or not I should buy this game..I saw it at Elecronic Boutique, looked at the box and for some reason was drawn to it. I Finally bought it last week...Here is my take on Independence War. It's an original space sim that is heavy on the sim. Theres no zipping around space. Your ship is big, sluggish on turns, and momentum can carry your damaged ship far off course. Is the game good. You bet. The story is builidn up nicely, the intro, at 14 min, is like a mini-movie. The game could have been destined for greatness. Why wasn't it? Idiocy. The rerelease of I-War as independance war with 3dfx support was a good idea. The fact that the game suffers from a slew of 3dfx related crashes is bad...Every mission I play the game wil hang up the system completely, at least once. This is after I installed the latest patch. Before the patch it would hang every time i switched view modes. The manual is still the same on shipped with I-war. It excludes some pretty damn important info..like the T.R.I. system. (you'll understand when you buy the game.) Had this been any other game it would now reside in the bottom of a drawer. But this IS a good game. Sure it is buggy, but deep down it screams to be be played, though the steep learning curve is not for the faint of heart or the easily frustrated. In the end I still love the game, and deal with the crashes with a smile, knowing that I am playing one of the few hidden gems, though it may have a slight flaw to it.

Summary

Independence War is a good game and a great concept. Unfortunately the
interface for the game does suck. I'm running it on a Pentium II with
128 megs of ram, and two 3-d accelerator cards. You need a good system
to be able to enjoy it, but it will still occasionally crash. The game will occasionally get stuck on one aspect of a mission. You cannot get the ship to dock on the right part of a spaceship, the autodocking routine occasionally fails, and maneuvering correctly is nearly impossible at times. You must play the game with a joystick as the keyboard control is very difficult. Also, I found that while playing, you can use the auto dock-
auto approach controls so much that most of the game you sit back and do
nothing. It is not until you encounter another ship some minutes into a mission
that you actually do anything. Pretty boring in my view. The poor interface and lack of playability for most of the game is what
makes this game fail and its sales suck. I wouldn't spend any more than
$25 for the game as that is about all it is worth. I really don't know why they play tested the game more. I could have told
them about the problems, as well as anyone else.

Summary

When i first layed my eyes on the game i thouhgt i would be a big hit, and i was so right!I can't still figure out why it haven't sold so well...The Intro movie is mor than 14 minutes long (!) nad contain verry good 3d graphics (just like the game itselfe). But the most important thing is thats its interessting and have a good gamevalue, and this game really has it all. If u like games like the X Wing, Tie fighter games are really gona like this game.....but one important thing is that I-WAR has more strategi and less SUPER action than the other games. It is that i like whit this game!

It fells great to have controll over a 150m corvette class ship, gliding around in space and kick the ass of other smaller ships. Another grate thing is that I-WAR are gona get 3Dfx support, and get more enhasements than the original game, but we must wait untill the Second quarter of 1998.
----
This is a game for all those that likes Spaceactionstrategies!

Summary

I-War is an action packed tactical space warfare simulation with a branching storyline. You are in control of the 150 m long
cruiser
dreadnaught. The bridge consists of 4 workstations: gunner, navigator, helm (engineer), commander. This sounds like a
submarine
simulation but in fact its possible to play the game completly as navigator who jumps occasionaly into the other stations. The
feeling
of being in command is very intense because every aspect of the spaceship is explained in the manual in full detail. Its pure
hard sci-fi. Flying around gives you an absolutely correct feeling of the physics that apply to such a large ship. And its a good
feeling. The (unaccelerated) graphics are beautyfull. True light sourcing, colored lights, metalic surfaces and all that stuff are
put
together in a decent way to enhance the expierence of real space flight.
The missions are well designed and bear some hidden surprises. The briefings are informative but you have to check out whats
realy
going on. For example: you are called to a blockade position where you deliver an admiral to the main battleship of the
blockade
fleet. Just a routine job. Then you have to patrol the lagrange point (jump point) for uninvited guests. Suddenly a tug ship
exists the
hyperspace and breaks the blockade. Some ships of the fleet follow the intruder. Your navigator recieved a signal from
the ship to the jump point (faster-than-light-signal) which reveals the positions of the main battleships of the fleet. In the next
second some space debris comes through the jump point and damages these ships. One piece of debris misses and
moves directly to the planet. The debris conceals a small freighter trying a blockade run supported by a small fleet of attack
ships.
The computer AI is good. The other ships aren´t mindless boogeys, they try to survive the conflict with the most possible
damage
delivery like you do.
The sound is good and the handling easy. There is no musical score, but ingame cutscenes of high quality and enhance the
already tight atmosphere. Join the NAVY.
