Price Paid:  $178.00 from internet

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 875D

Summary:

I frequently print photos from my digital camera and the prints are incredible to behold. My friends cannot distinguish it from a real photograph and are stunned when told otherwise. Text is also of an above average quality. The printing is quick and quiet compared to many other printers. Best printing results I have seen from a printer in the under $400.00 range.

Strengths:

Fantastic photo printing and text printing. The printer is incredibly versatile.

Weaknesses:

The cartridge insertion is rather a delicate process, but it seems to be the norm among other manufacturers.

Similar Products Used:

Epson Photo Stylus 700, HP 932

Customer Service:

Unknown, since I have not had a need.

Review 2 of 6

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 875DCS

Summary:

This printer is fantastic. It's super quiet and it's a speed demon. I printed out some photo's that I shot with my Kodak DC290 digital camera and the results were breath taking. The pictures looked exactly like they were developed and printed in a photo lab. This model also takes roll photo paper so you can print coninuous photos from your computer, camera, or any compact flash card. The price is a fantastic bargain ($199.00 @ www.epson.com).

Strengths:

Quiet, Fast , Excellent print quality, Inexpensive, built in card reader. Sturdy, Stylish, compact.

Weaknesses:

Loading Roll Paper must be exact and can take some time to get it loaded properly.

Similar Products Used:

HP 855C, HP550C

Customer Service:

Absolutely terrific! They replaced a blemished printer via over night delivery. A good company.

Price Paid:  $180.00 from Office Max

Model Reviewed:
875DC

Summary:

I picked up this printer at Office Max right after they knocked $120 off the price (actually had to get the employees to check their website, because they had it marked $299 still). I took it home, and since it was my first USB printer had to buy a $20 USB cable. Before I bought the printer I had read some things about the lightfastness of the ink/paper so to test it, I printed out a 4x6" photo of my son taken with my Kodak DC3200 and hung it in my cubicle at my night job, it's been two weeks now of that flourescent light for about 20 hours a day, no frame and nothing has happened. It takes about 1 minute for a 4x6" high quality from the time I press print to the time it's finished. The printer is quiet, except when you install a new cartidge then it sounds like satan has taken it over. Which brings me to another item, consumables, I did tons of research on this printer versus the HP Photosmart 1000 and for $120 less I bought this one, but check to see if you can get the ink locally I found it at Office Depot for $20.21 with tax for a color cartridge. The ink carts it uses are only compaitble with three models of EPSON printers according to the box, I thought that price was cheap enough and while you won't be getting 80 8x10's out of one cartridge you will get a pretty good yield and at that price it's hard to beat (online I found some places that sell the carts for $17 or so).

Strengths:

Quiet, fast, integrated card reader, not too expensive to operate.

Weaknesses:

Not professional quality photo's but most people don't examine pictures that closely.

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Best Buy

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 875DC

Summary:

I had my HP 722 for two years and was very happy with its photo printing. Lately I realized this printer consume too much memory under Win2K environment, so I decided to buy a new printer. After a big time debate, I decided to give Epson a try. So here is the Photo 875DC. I have to say the quality is incredible!! The printer does an excellent job on photos from digital camera. When you print a picture that is scaned from a slide film, the quality is almost professional. So far i have printed over 20 pictures that scanned from slide film, and ALL of my friends thought they were better than the pictures developed from the photo lab. I am very happy with the printing quality. The printer driver is good, and very informative but easy to use. The USB connection is fast as well.

Review 5 of 6

Model Reviewed:
Epson Photo 875DC

Summary:

I purchased this printer for one thing. Printing out photos from my digital camera. Does it do a good job? Well the answer can be summed up in one word "UNBELIVEABLE". I also have a HP 970 and when I first got it I could clearly tell it was a step above all other printers. Now with the Epson 875DC I can clearly see a improvement over digital photo's made from my HP. Actually a big improvement. The Epson also has water-prof inks and let me tell you don't under estimate this because my wife had made a 8 by 10 on the HP as a gift for a friend and one tiny drop of rain ran down the whole side of the sheet. Some of Epson higher numbered models my be better but as far as I'm concerned this is the Best Photo printer under $400.00.

Strengths:

Best Photo Printer Vivid Colors PC card Interface Good Software Water Proff Inks Long Lasting Inks USB

Weaknesses:

Printing Text not as good as HP 970 Not as quite as 970

Similar Products Used:

HP 970 Cxi
