Review 1 of 2 Summary: The A652's are masters of sound reproduction for the price(under $400 for the pair, but this is for parts only!)Vance Dickason (The chief guru of loudspeaker design) did his job on this one. The bass/mid drivers are high end Audax carbon fiber cone 6 1/2's (2X in a d'Apolito configuration) with a super smooth silk dome tweet (bought from Martin Sound with the lowest price on the web - http://www.ncweb.com/biz/sound/). In a stand alone stereo config they shake the rec room at almost 105 dBa. I havent had the time to do a freq plot yet but my ears are happy!
I am currently using a Kenwood K-VR8080 DPL receiver (bought from http://www.onecall.com/index.html for $237-they are still selling at thisprice), 2X DIY Sound Clearing House KOH1a 6" carbon fiber cone2ways(http://speakerkits.com./) with total cost under $90 for the pair, and a DIY center channel using two of the 6" and 1X tweet from the SCH KOH1a with the cabinet doubled and a change to the X-over for about $40.
As you can see, I have built everything except the Receiver on as low of a budjet as possible but the A652 are the center of this system. PS: I actually built these for my 17 year old son but after finishimg them I deceided to keep them in our rec room and retire my JBL 4311 studio monitors instead.
Anybody wanting more info on the A652's should go to these sites: http://www.sdinfo.com/main.html (Go to the DIY section under kits) http://www.audax.com (Go to the US flag and check the A652 kit)
