For the era in which these were produced, they were an excellent HT choice, and when I got two complete sets for under $300 on closeout at Ward's it was an unbelievable deal. Today I would rate them as still above average compared to most of the sets being sold, but there are a number of better over all sets on the market. However, if you can find a set, don't overlook them, especially if you're thinking of spending a lot of money on a Bose, Cambridge, or other packaged system.
I'm currently using them in my office to run iTunes through an old Technics six channel receiver, and they sound pretty freakin' good. The mids and highs represent themselves well in a small space, and the dual 5.25" woofers ("woofers"? really?) are strong in the mid and upper bass. The enclosure is tuned well. The low, low end is MIA.
The set is very unobtrusive, and it sounds terrific for semi-serious listening. I'd take it before just aobut any Bose system. Strengths:
Small size, ease of set up, flexibility, minimal power consumption, big sound, pretty good HT use. Weaknesses:
No low bass, passive sub (requires external amp), not for really serious listening (but not marketed for that, either). Similar Products Used:
