Price Paid:  $179.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
Unfortunately, I can't give this product a favorable review. It is very fussy about playing dvds. Forget about trying to play a rental. Plays some music discs fine. A family member gave me a Panasonic DVD-S23 player that cost somewhere in the $70 department, and the Panasonic blows this Samsung out of the water, both in audio quality as well as video playback.

Strengths:
Nice looks. Jog/shuttle function. Headphone jack.

Weaknesses:
Horrible for playing dvd's.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $199.00 from Hatts Electronics

Summary:
First one I owned played MP3, CD, VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW flawlessly, problem was it didn't play DVD, DVD-R or DVD-RW. I returned the unit and got another one, and all is well. It plays every media type I can think of at it, and it works... even XVCD. The 2nd remote is a nice feature... especially if you have kids.. they can abuse the heck out of it and you know you have another one in safe keeping. Picture Quality is very good.. I have it hooked to a 34" Samsung HDTV using progressive scan. A worthy product to purchase.

Strengths:
Plays everything. CD, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD, XVCD, MP3, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD.

Weaknesses:
It's a rather ugly unit compared to Samsung's higher end stuff. When playing MP3's it will only show 9 characters of the song title, which is annoying when the bands name is first. Load time is a bit slow. And why the heck don't they put clocks on DVD players, I don't use a VCR anymore.
