from a local retailer Summary: I love these headphones. Denon is not considered by some to be in a tier with sony when it comes to home audio but that is mostly becuase of advertisement. Most just assume sony is better because it is a big name. I find Denon products to top sony's in most cases. These headphones are no exception. They are great sounding, very durable, comfortable, and are cheap for the quality. Strengths: The frequency response is well balanced and fits well for all types of music. The bass response is perfectly leveled. Even with rap, hip hop, or techno, the bass thumps are very present but do no drown out any treble. Also, rock and metal sound great as the bass drum and bass guitars are both defineable yet not overpowering. The treble is crisp and clear. It is never twangy and ear damaging. The mids are present yet not dominant. The overall sound is, as previously mentioned, very well balanced. Every type of music sounds fantastic on these headphones. Also, they are extremely durable. I actually ran over a bag they were in at the airport one day and was amazed to find them not only in tact, but still sounding great. They are comfortable and sleek and fit in most backpacks or small bags for traveling. For a great sounding, durable, comfortable set of headphones, youd expect to pay more than $100. Not in this case. Weaknesses: The only thing I can think of is the amount of noise which escapes the earphones. When the volume is turned up too high, it's easy for others to hear muffled music. Similar Products Used: I actually started with JVC headphones which I liked but lost. I then decided to change to sony. I started with lower models of the MDR line. Then I upgraded to the MDR-V700.
