Summary:
9090db has natural, pure and visble soundstage. Excellent reception, low distortion. Great!!! This receiver receives and then delivers to almost perfection. I finally beat other flea-ers & thift-ers to the punch. Close your eyes and enjoy any type music. I'm pushing JBL6030 and Pioneer HPM 100s. Yes, I did infact pay $25.00 dollars for the unit.

Strengths:
Power rating and soundstage to live concert level.

Weaknesses:
DB section is on the blink but can find any noticable weaknesses with this piece. Love all about it.

Summary:
I had been inpressed with the Marantz sound, that is, until I got my first Sansui 9090DB. Nothing tops this powerful receiver. Been playing a Cream live CD and if I close my eyes, I can picture being at the event easily. This thing sounds better than anything I've heard or own. Only close match is my Sansui 9090 non dolby receiver. I am glad these units have not been readily discovered by the masses, so one is always within reach for a few hundred bucks.

Strengths:
Great components, lots of metal, great design. Above all, FM quality and amp sound.

Weaknesses:
None whatsover other than its weight.

Summary:
Great, high quality, versatile classic audio receiver.

Strengths:
Can handle three sets of speakers- unusual!
Beautiful - an unusual quality for a piece of electronics.
Still brush aluminum face with black writing -much better for aging baby boomer eyes than more modern black faces which can hardly be seen in room light.

Weaknesses:
Large and heavy. Strange weakness is its longevity and durability - makes finding competent repair service difficult. Does anyone know a place in the mid-atlantic region that does good work on these?

Summary:
A history of the system; 9090DB Speakers SP2500X
It was bought in 1977, the year that I was born. I was so intrested in it as a baby that my parents had to put it a cabinet and lock it. But it was the only thing that would put me asleep. In a hanging chair with both speakers pointed toward me playing all the music of the time ( 3 Dog, CCR, Jim Croche,etc) I grew up with the system, I knew no diffrence in stereos. When I became the age that I wanted a stereo of my own my parents bought me a system that I was highly disappointed in. It didn't sound as good as theres, I couldn't beat them in a heads up make the house shake contest(it happend several times). Plus above a certian volume you couldn't understand mine. But there 9090db could be turned all the way up and you could understand every word, hear every instrument. Finally in the Mid 90's my father bought a Fisher system for $1400 and gave me the Sansui 9090db. After a carried the massive recevier into my room and the speakers I hooked it up to my computer to listen to MP3s. In a short amount of time he wanted his Sansui back. To much regreat I gave it back to him and the Fisher stayed in the living room corner untouched for months. One day while listening to music the Sansui red lighted on him. It reset it's self and played some more and redlighted again. It continued this for about and hour and finally the redlight came on and stayed on. The audio shop at the time said that they didn't have parts for it and that it was so out of date that dad should get a new system. Dad brought the Sansui home from the shop and put it away from the closet. But with out his music he just wasn't happy with the Fisher. So one day while browesing at a local Pawn shop he came across another Sansui this time an 8080db. He bought the system with out a second thought. He brought the system home and hooked the speakers up from the old Sansui and turned it on. It was great the sounds were true as the artist would want it. But the dreaded red light started to come on on it too. We noticed that the Mid Range speakers wasn't working this time and I opened the speaker box up. The Cross over for the mid range speakers was blown completely apart. A trip to a electronics store with what was left of the exploded part and I rececived the parts and took it home and soldered it in. Back in business with all the greatest tunes.

Bottom Line;

If you don't have one get one. If you have one keep it forever. You'll never need another system.

Let me say right here and now... ""FIND ONE"" I have an awesome system in my main listening room Cinepro , Bryston 9b, Klipschorn Cornerhorns, Mcintosh tube pre and $$$$ big money in patch cables and speaker wires and a $2000 SACD player ect... anyways I wanted a more powerful receiver for the bedroom, well I had been running a Sansui 7070 for a long time and then I came across the 9090DB, and man I won't bore you to death with big fancy ways to explain hi-fi nirvana, but "wow" is the first thing that came accoss my mind, then the goose bumps!! This is just an amazing unit, this smokes my older brothers Pioneer sx-1280 or sx-1250 (one of those) in pure power and dynamics!! I have had big receivers but never a big Sansui. Just keep turning the volume around the clock with this baby and it just says give me more!! ""WOW""... clean...clean...clean!!! I can't beleave that I got $10,000+ in amps in one room and in another an old receiver and there's no difference in sound quality!! GET ONE NOW BEFORE THERE ALL GONE!!
