Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Alot of the complaints I've read haven't happened to me.I have owned this receiver(RX 888 VBK) for over 3 years and it has never let me down. The music pounds and the movies shake,it was perfect for me 3 years ago but now its time for upgrade.

Strengths:
with a little tinkering got the sound the way I like it crisp highs and shakin bass.

Weaknesses:
runs hot,not enough digital inputs(I need 3)component video inputs.

Similar Products Used:

Review 2 of 170

Price Paid:  $350.00 from Ebay

Summary:
I bought this receiver off of ebay and used it for about 6 months and one day I came home to this odd burning smell. I tracked it down to my JVC receiver that was smoking very badly. I was shocked because the receiver was not on it was simply in standby mode. After I unplugged after a few hours I tried to see if it still worked everything was fine until I tried to use my surround sound then no sound.

Strengths:
Good power, Good Features.

Weaknesses:
Caught fire for no reason, Surround Sound no longer working.

Similar Products Used:
Sony, Denon, JVC, Yamaha

Review 3 of 170

Price Paid:  $229.00 from CG Electronics

Summary:
Very nice receiver for a modern JVC model. Nice loud sound, easy to use and nicely featured. This is my first Dolby Digital receiver and I was very pleased to discover that I could get JVC's vaunted K2 Interface AND Dynamic Super-A amps without getting the far more expensive 1028. I also have the 301 minidisc unit and I love the Tex-Compulink feature enabling the receiver to display the song titles of my CDs and MDs.

Strengths:
Good looking, great sound, very nicely integrated with other JVC gear.

Weaknesses:
Remote has no learning capability.

Similar Products Used:
JVC RX-905, RX-807, RX-901.

Price Paid:  $500.00 from Future Shop

Summary:
Never had a problem with this unit. All things I need it to do were done very well. With the price I payed, I think it's a very good deal. The combination, with others units also is primordial like speakers, DVD player etc...
My components:

Tape Deck : JVC TD W354
DVD Player: Toshiba 1200 ( Made in Japan:it's important for me, I've used this player about 1 year and a half, I never had problem like those mentionned in reviews for this unit. The unit Made in China or else is not reliable ....)

Center Speaker : JBL S-Center 3-way --- VERY GOOD
Rear Speakers : JBL N-24 -- do the job very well

VCR : Sharp VC H992 and Toshiba Multi-System Unit
TV : Toshiba 21 FSSystem ( Unit of 1992 but the picture is incredible with DVD Movie)
Equalizer: TEAC EQA-220

Strengths:
Reliability. All of things you need in this unit DD, DTS etc

Weaknesses:
Lack of bass

Review 5 of 170

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Costco

Summary:
My unit just died on me. Fortunately, there is a 2 year warranty on the unit for parts and labor. I bought this receiever April -2000 .
The receiver just went dead while I was using it. The front panel display would not light up when I push
the on button. Oh well, it is now in the process of being repaired and will be a few weeks before I will
get it back. I am wondering what may have caused it to go bad? There are no external fuses.
Maybe there is an internal fuse that may have blown. I wonder if heat was cause of the problem.
I was told that there are internal resistors that could have gone bad. Time will tell-I intend to get
an explaination for the cause of the problem from the technician who will be repairing the unit.
I will post the cause for the failure here when I get the receiver back.

Overall, this is a good product when it works. This was the first time I had a problem with it.
I hope it can be repaired and there will be no further problems.

Strengths:
features

Weaknesses:
Reliability-??????
